Germany: Vessels for Wind Farm Tenders use M72 engines

Contracts & Tenders

The number of wind farms generating sustainable energy is increasing steadily.

These farms are supplied and maintained by tenders – vessels whose specialized design makes them impervious to heavy seas. “Thanks to our powerful propulsion plant, the special double-hull construction and our electronically controlled fin stabilizers, the crew can access the platforms even in seas up to 2.5 meters,” explained MTU project leader Thomas Müller. In April, the German shipyard A&R christened a wind farm tender scheduled for service in a North Sea wind park operated by the BARD Group. The vessel is equipped with 10V 2000 M72 engines powering a diesel-electric propulsion plant and also has the Callosum MC ship’s automation system which controls and monitors the entire propulsion plant, on-board electric power generation and other sub-systems on the vessel.
