Community Members to Discuss Maine’s Deepwater Offshore Wind Test Site (USA)

Visitors, residents, fishermen, and business owners in midcoast Maine are invited to join discussions about the University of Maine’s Deepwater Offshore Wind Test Site that has been established in coastal waters south of Monhegan.

Project leaders will share highlights of recently completed studies, and seek community input in plans for developing a world-class offshore wind research site. A similar set of meetings occurred in April.

“We want seasonal residents and visitors to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the University’s plans, to share their comments and concerns and explore ways to be involved,” said Paul Anderson, leader of the Marine Extension Team, a partnership between Maine Sea Grant and University of Maine Cooperative Extension. “We hope to continue meeting with communities until the facility is up and running and beyond.”

Four meetings are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the following dates and locations:

Tuesday, August 9, Herring Gut Learning Center, Port Clyde

Wednesday, August 10, Friendship Town Office

Tuesday, August 23, Bristol Consolidated School

Thursday, August 25, Boothbay Regional High School Auditorium
