Western Australian Carnegie Seeks Funds for Wave Energy Development

Business & Finance

A Western Australian company that’s developed a breakthrough wave energy method says Australia is poised to be a world leader in developing the technology.

Carnegie Wave Energy has pioneered a fully submerged wave power generation system that uses a series of flooded buoys to produce constant, renewable energy.

The company is applying for funding under the the first round of the Federal Government’s Clean Energy Future Fund.

Carnegie CEO Michael Ottaviano says no other country has deployed the technology on a commercial scale yet, and Australia could lead the field.

“Australia, with its world class energy resource, and its world class offshore engineering expertise from the oil and gas sector, has a unique opportunity to actually grab and own a renewable energy sector and exploit it,” he said.

“And we’re actually seeing this as an opportunity to generate jobs and revenue for the country going forward.”
