Ballast Nedam Deploys HLV Svanen at London Array Offshore Wind Farm (UK)

Operations & Maintenance

Ballast Nedam has signed an agreement with London Array Limited for the deployment of the heavy lift vessel (HLV) Svanen at The London Array Offshore Wind Farm from the second half of August this year.

Svanen will perform its services in addition to the installation vessels currently installing foundations for Phase One of the project. Some components will be shipped by Ballast Nedam from Vlissingen in the Netherlands.

The London Array Offshore Wind Farm is being constructed in the outer Thames Estuary in the United Kingdom. At 1,000MW, the project is currently the world’s largest consented offshore wind farm.

By November this year Svanen will proceed to Denmark to start installing foundations for the 111-turbine Anholt offshore wind farm. In the first half of 2011 Svanen installed 51 foundations for the Walney 2 Offshore Wind Farm in the Irish Sea. The prospects for acquiring offshore wind turbine projects and deployment of the heavy lift vessel Svanen continue to be good for the next few years.

London Array is being built around 20km off the coasts of Kent and Essex. Phase One will cover 100km2 and includes 175 turbines with a combined capacity of 630MW. If approved, the second phase will add enough capacity to bring the total to 1,000MW. The project consortium partners have the following shareholdings: DONG Energy owns 50%, E.ON has 30% and Masdar has a 20% stake.

Ballast Nedam has a leading position in construction and infrastructure.
