Lyman Morse Boatyard to Start Building Alicat Vessels (USA)

Lyman Morse Boatyard launches into the offshore wind workboat market at the AWEA Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition on October 11-13, in booth 331 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland.

To keep up with demand, UK-based Alicat Workboats, part of the UK based Gardline Group of companies, will be working with Lyman Morse Boatyard to build the range of Alicat vessels, and bringing the UK’s windfarm vessel of choice, to the USA.

“Expanding our existing custom yacht building capacity to encompass aluminum Alicat offshore wind vessels presents a great opportunity for our highly-skilled teams in metal fabrications, design and engineering, mechanical, systems and composites,” notes Project Manager Ted Smith. “With over 30 years of custom boatbuilding success under our belts, we are confident that offshore wind service companies will want Lyman Morse to build their proven range of Alicat workboats.”

The Alicat is unique in that the designs for both the 20m and 17m version are DNV approved. Respected boat designer Gavin Mair, founder and owner of Global Marine Design Pty (GMD), was chosen by Gardline to design the Alicat workboats.

Lyman-Morse is a custom boat building yard on the coast of Maine with a distinguished history. This boatyard offers a broad-range of capabilities executed by highly skilled craftspeople, and a modern and expansive facility that includes a temperature-controlled, energy-efficient, “green” building specially designed for large yacht or workboat construction, storage and service.

Alicat Workboats was established in May 2009 in response to demand for suitable vessels to provide access for operation and maintenance support for the rapidly growing offshore wind sector. The first Alicat was launched in July 2010 and has been working on the Walney offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea ever since. Alicat’s further range of workboats, are currently active on the UK’s coastlines supporting various windfarm initiatives, and are receiving excellent reviews from all contractors.

With over 120 exhibitors and nearly 1,700 attendees, AWEA’s Offshore WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition brings together the wind energy industry. The exhibition is extensive and includes new technology, wind products, developers, suppliers, and wind turbine manufacturers. Exhibiting companies are from all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond.

Lyman-Morse offers world-class service and renowned custom boatbuilding drawing on the region’s 200-year tradition of shipbuilding and fine craftsmanship spanning many generations.
