Michelle T. Davies, Head of Clean Energy and Sustainability at international law firm Eversheds, has been appointed on the industry-led Offshore Wind Cost Reduction Task Force, announced by the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change.

The Task Force was announced as part of the Governments Renewable Energy Roadmap in July 2011, and will set out a path and action plan to reduce the costs of offshore wind to £100 MWh by 2020. The Task Force will report to DECC Ministers and Devolved Administration Ministers by Spring 2012.

Michelle advises Eversheds’ UK and international clients across all renewable technologies including offshore wind. She is the only lawyer appointed to the task force and will join representatives from Centrica, Lloyds Banking Corporate Markets, The Carbon Trust and Alstom UK.

Michelle said:

“Offshore wind is a critical component of the UK’s energy strategy and our ability to meet our 2020 clean energy targets. I am looking forward to working with a task force which will focus on helping the offshore wind sector prosper in the UK and help deliver value to energy consumers.”

UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry said:

“Offshore wind not only makes sense for our energy security and the environment, but the economy too, bringing jobs and sparking growth. I am pleased to be able to announce the members that will spearhead this vital work to drive down costs of meeting our offshore wind ambitions.

“This Task Force will provide the strong leadership and vision required to grow our offshore wind sector in the next decade and beyond”.
