Cable Installation at London Array Faces Delay (UK)

Cable installation at London Array, 1GW offshore wind farm, has been delayed as a result of the bad weather and shallow waters at the construction site, reports Windpower Monthly.

With Global Marine’s Jan Steen, Atlantis and Sovereign vessels charter suspension, London array has called in more installation vessels that can operate in shallow waters.

Global Marine’s cable storage barge Explorer, VSMC’s Stemat 82 and Stemat 87 will commence cable installation this month.

The array cables will connect the wind turbines to each other and to the offshore substations. They will each measure between 650m and 1,200m in length. For Phase One, they will lay 209km of array cabling in total.
