Wind Farm Update

TenneT Offshore GmbH Eyes Subsea Cable Installation Contractor (Germany)

TenneT Offshore GmbH eyes subsea cable installation contractor.

The contractor will be in charge of establishing a grid connection between an onshore transformer substation and one or several offshore Wind farms located in the offshore wind farm cluster BorWin on the North Sea.

The services include in particular the financing, design, construction, planning and maintenance of the grid connection.

Two grid connections (BorWin3 and BorWin4) have to be established to the power grid on land for the connection of the offshore wind farms in the BorWin cluster situated in the North.

The grid connection will reach from the offshore wind farm to the onshore transformer substation. After the completion, TenneT will perform the grid connection system operation.

TenneT is the power hub in the European grid. In Germany, TenneT is currently constructing offshore wind energy connections with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatt, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 5 million households. In addition, TenneT will be reinforcing the Dutch and German high-voltage grids by installing around 1,000 kilometers of new interconnections over the coming years.
