China Needs to Speed up Dafeng Offshore Project

In October 2010, Longyuan, China’s largest wind developer, won a tender to develop the 200 MW Dafeng offshore project. The company is still waiting for the government approval, reports Recharge News.

Realisation of the project has already been delayed several times, because of the number of complaints on the proposed location, initiated by the State Ocean Administration.

Yang Xiaosheng, Longyuan’s chief engineer says:

We changed to a new place, and then to another place, and now a year has lapsed and it seems we have to find another new place“.

By delaying this project, China is facing a failure of its 5 GW offshore wind capacity by 2015 – plan.

Yi Yuechun, deputy chief engineer at China Water Resources claims: “If we don’t make it clear soon where the other 3GW will come from, it will be hard to reach the target for 2015”.
