Global Marine Energy to Conduct Cable Landing Works for UK Wind Farm

Centrica Renewables Energy Ltd has contracted Global Marine Energy Ltd., the largest independent provider of subsea power cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services worldwide, to provide the cable landing works related to the west export nearshore cable at the Lincs Offshore wind farm.

Lincs offshore wind farm, which began construction in 2010, is located off the east coast of the United Kingdom and is one of several renewable projects under development by Centrica Renewable Energy Ltd. The project is immediately adjacent to the Lynn and Inner Dowsing wind farms, two of Centrica’s renewable projects completed and fully operational in 2009.

“Global Marine Energy is very pleased to have been awarded the contract for this important element of the Lincs offshore wind farm.” said Mark Leggett, Global Marine Energy CEO. “We look forward to working closely with the project team at Centrica to help ensure a smooth installation of the cable landing and near shore portions of the Lincs export cable.”

Global Marine Energy will be performing the work beginning in April 2012 and expects completion in July. Due to the shallow water conditions at the project site, Global Marine will be utilising the cable barge Nautilus Maxi to deliver the project.

When operational by the end of 2012, the wind farm is expected to power the annual electricity requirements of approximately 200,000 households. The addition of this zero emissions energy will contribute towards the 2020 UK carbon reduction targets.
