UK: Narec Soon to Complete 3MW Turbine Drive Train Facility

Narec’s  new 3MW Turbine Drive Train Facility will be commissioned very soon.

The steel structure of the test hall is 15M high and is constructed over an existing dry dock. The dry dock needed three mass concrete pours to cover an area of 45x15x6.5m (approximately 7000m3) and is reinforced with large grade steel to withstand the weight of the frame and rigorous testing procedures.

Narec has invested over £150m in the development of some of Europe’s largest translational research, testing and demonstration facilities designed to accelerate the deployment of offshore renewable energy technologies.

These facilities address the problems and issues faced by companies seeking to develop and demonstrate technologies at large scale in a controlled environment.

Narec is the UK’s national research centre for accelerating grid integration of renewable energy systems and catalysing the development and deployment of offshore wind, wave and tidal energy generation technologies.
