USA: Renewables Could Supply 80 Pct Electricity in 2050, Study Says

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has published a study called Renewable Electricity Futures, which says that 80% of electricity demand in 2050 could be adequately supplied by renewable sources.

Moreover, the agency says that this could be achieved by using the technologies that are currently available, the IEEE Spectrum writes.

Wind and photovoltaics could provide 50% of electricity without any supply disruptions. And while total renewable supply boosts, the study suggests that USA will witness offshore wind sector growth.

On the other side, NREL sees hydropower contribution diminishing over the next few decades.
