VolkerWessels Wins Cabling Contract for German Meerwind Offshore Wind Farm

VolkerWessels subsidiary Visser & Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) has been awarded a contract from WindMW GmbH for the installation of cables for the Meerwind Offshore Wind Farm which is currently under construction in Germany. The award of the contract consolidates VSMC’s position as market leader in cable installation for offshore wind farms.

Wind Turbines

The Meerwind offshore wind farm will be located at a distance of 23 kilometres from the island of Helgoland. The wind farm will have space for 80 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.6 MW, meaning an overall capacity of 288 MW. This part of the contract will be carried out in combination, with the combination being responsible for the laying, burying and connecting of 88 infield cables.

Long history
