UK: PATCH Hosts Wave and Tidal Energy Workshop

UK PATCH Hosts Wave and Tidal Energy Workshop

As the Maritime Journal writes, PATCH (Ports Adapting to Change) and Seeports have hosted a one day workshop to explore opportunities in wave and tidal energy sector for small and medium sized ports.

Blue Energy Workshop was held at the Port of Ramsgate.

Wim Stubbe from the Port of Oostende gave a brief overview of the PATCH project, saying the money is going where it’s not needed, to the big ports. He also said they haven’t made a lot of progress with the project.

On the other hand, David Krohn, from the RenewableUK said that the installed wave and tidal capacity has doubled in the last 10 months, naming Aquamarine Power and Pelamis Wave Power as the most active in this field.

The industry has a potential to install 1.5GW of wave and tidal capacity, thus making the UK as “one of the most attractive places in the world to develop marine energy,” said Mr Krohn.
