Australia: Wave Energy Project Wakes Community’s Interest

This week, Bio Power Systems held information meetings regarding its 250 kW wave energy project. The meetings took place at Port Fairy and Yambuk, with about 50 attendees.

The ABC news site quotes Dr Timothy Finnegan, the company’s chief executive, as saying: “Just wanting to be well informed and we appreciate that and we’re providing as much information as we can and want to make communication with the community the top priority and make it easy for people to understand.”

The Federal Government granted AUD 5.6 million to Bio Power Systemsto build the demonstration power plant in 2013.

The Port Fairy Pilot Wave Energy Project involves installation and ocean-testing of a pilot bioWAVE unit. It will provide key data for the design of a larger 1MW commercial-scale bioWAVE unit, which is planned as the next phase of the technology development.
