Port of Davisville Can Match South Terminal, USA

While South Terminal will be the first port built specifically to support wind industry shipping and fabrication, there are other ports in the region that can handle the massive components.

According to the South Coast Today, Port of Davisville at Quonset Point, Rhode Island, is one such option. It offers two 1,200 ft piers, a bulkhead and a 14-acre lay down area. A USD 22.3 million grant from the US Department of Transportation in 2010 has helped the port to make improvements necessary for managing wind turbine parts.

Nevertheless, Deepwater Wind Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Vice President for Strategy and External Affairs Jeffrey Grybowski said: “New Bedford is attractive because the state and the city have committed to building the right kind of infrastructure.”

“This isn’t a race to the top, it’s not a competition.

“There’s more than enough work to go around,” he added.
