SMM Direct: Thrane & Thrane Announces New Navtex Tool for Offshore Vessels

Thrane & Thrane – a Cobham plc company – announced at SMM 2012 (located at stand #407 in hall B6) that it will bring a new SAILOR 6390 Navtex unit to market in Q2 2013. The new SAILOR Navtex joins Thrane & Thrane’s already established GMDSS portfolio which is based on the sophisticated SAILOR 6000 GMDSS series VHF and MF/HF radios, mini-C terminals, EPIRBs, SARTs, consoles and accessories.

The Navtex system, which is part of GMDSS, consists of coast stations transmitting important navigational, meteorological, search & rescue, ice warning messages, etc., on predetermined frequencies in predetermined time slots.

It provides a vital long-range information service for international shipping and is well-established as an important safety, navigation and operational tool for merchant and offshore vessels worldwide.

The new SAILOR 6390 Navtex has been developed to offer the same high quality standards of manufacture and operation expected of SAILOR equipment. It is designed to be used as a standalone navigation aid or a reliable component of any GMDSS installation, helping vessels to meet their requirements with dependable equipment at an attractive price point.

“SAILOR has been a leading name in the GMDSS market for many years and our current generation SAILOR 6000 GMDSS Series is the most advanced system to date,” comments Casper Jensen, VP Maritime Business Unit, Thrane & Thrane. “We are committed to the continuous development of our GMDSS portfolio, introducing new functions and products to ensure that we can offer ship owners the complete package, regardless of vessel type or where it is sailing.”
