USA: Assateague Island against Offshore Wind Power Transmission

Residents of Assateague Island are opposing the power transmission project which would deliver offshore wind energy from future projects built off the coasts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.

According to DelmarvaNow news site, Ocean City attorney Hugh Cropper IV wrote to Atlantic Wind Connection on behalf of some of the residents, saying that “it would have a catastrophic environmental effect to bring a power line across that island, even if it’s bored underneath”.

However, they are not against the offshore wind power.

President of Atlantic Grid Development Markian Melnyk said that his company is currently in phase of considering the best places for cabling route.
