The Netherlands: BMO Offshore Sells First Vessel Black Box

BMO announces the first sale of the Vessel Black Box to Frisia Offshore, Germany. The Vessel Black Box is a flexible, integrated vessel movement monitoring system. Innovative sensor solutions from the aerospace industry are used, with superior performance and much lower cost than conventional sensors used in the offshore industry.

A complete system will be delivered that is fast to install, validate, use and remove from the vessel for use on another one. BMO Offshore will operate the VBB under a full-service arrangement.

The vessel blackbox reports every day back to the client on all activities and creates an easy framework for optimization of fuel consumption, crew planning, passenger comfort and safety.

The simplicity, robustness and transparent reporting were key in selecting the Vessel Blackbox by Frisia to help them evaluate current performance and future fleet upgrades and expansion. Results for Frisia will include:

  • Automated daily reporting on all vessel movements incl. docking times
  • Automatic video recording of accidents/near misses during transfer
  • Direct operational performance comparison of different vessels in different sea states
  • Comfort measurement/comparison according to the DNV high speed craft code

To improve the effectiveness of CTV operations offshore and the safety of personnel, wind park owners and operators require more data. Wave and current conditions at the turbine’s boat landing, and vessel position and movement data, can be used to assess the actual weather windows for CTVs, assess CTV and crew performance and lower operation costs. BMO Offshore develops and operates innovative measurement solutions for the offshore wind industry.

Frisia Offshore is an emerging offshore services ans vessel management company providing direct access to the North Sea. It offers extensive competences in the wide range of offshore wind energy, operating a large portfolio of different ship types in cooperating with partners.
