Humber Renewables Awards Return for 2013 (UK)

An awards event dedicated to recognising excellence in the region’s renewable energy industry is returning for the second time.

The Humber Renewables Awards 2013 will be bigger than its first outing, earlier this year, with the addition of two new categories.

The awards are the only event of their type dedicated to the emerging green energy sector.

For 2013, the accolades will again mark the success of people, businesses and other organisations committed to the development of the renewables industry.

Hosted by specialist public relations and marketing company Footprint Renewables, the awards will culminate in a celebration dinner at The Deep, Hull, on March 1.

KC Business is the headline sponsor of the event.

Andrew Morton, account director of Footprint Renewables, said: “The 2012 awards were a great success, with dozens of individuals, local businesses and training providers recognised for their work to make our region a centre of excellence for the renewables industry.

“Given the rapid-development of this sector, the awards are an important way of showcasing, in a bold way, how the Humber is capable of meeting this challenge.”

The Humber is seeing huge investment in green technology, from bio-energy plants and micro-generation schemes to marine renewables – with the Port Of Hull a proposed home for offshore wind turbine assembly.

Mr Morton said: “We’re now launching next year’s awards and given the enormous amount of renewables-related work and progress over recent months in the local area they promise to be even bigger and more successful.”

Sean Royce, KC’s commercial and finance director, said the company is delighted to return as headline sponsor of the Humber Renewables Awards.

He said: “The 2012 event was a fantastic showcase of our region’s expertise across the whole green energy industry and of the activity already underway to make Hull and the Humber a renewables hub.

“With so many developments in the sector over recent months, the 2013 awards promise to be even more relevant and, once again, help promote what our area has to offer renewables.

“It’s important for established businesses to support this emerging sector and we’re looking forward to seeing excellent award entries and celebrating success at the 2013 event.”

There are 10 categories to choose from, including Humber Renewables Champion and Best Project or Installation.

New awards for this year are Renewables Education and Renewables Trainee of the Year.

Submissions close on January 11 and after this a panel of independent judges – drawn from the renewables industry and local business community – will produce a shortlist of finalists and decide the winners.

The finalists will be invited to the celebration dinner at The Deep, where the winners will be announced.

One of the organisations that triumphed in 2012 was Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA), which has sites in Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

James McIntosh, HETA marketing and communications manager, said: “HETA was delighted Footprint Renewables took the initiative to create the Humber Renewables Awards last year.

“The Humber region has the potential to be a hub for renewables for years to come and there are organisations that are making great strides in the sector and deserve recognition.”
