The University of Maryland Student Government Association (SGA) members are giving their support for Governor O’Malley’s wind energy bill, and they hope it will make it out of the General Assembly, writes The Diamondback Online.

If the bill passes, Maryland would see a 200MW wind farm off its Eastern Shore.

James Jalandoni, Student Government Association director of governmental affairs said that SGA will make everything they can, from partnering with lobbyist groups and students to partnering with lawmakers, to make sure their voice is heard in the State House.

Public policy professor Nathan Hultman stated:

“There’s a good resource here and there’s a great argument that if it’s going to work anywhere, it should work here because we’re close to the demand.”

“There’s a lot of people that live on the East Coast, and it’s very easy to absorb the electricity that would be generated.”
