Pontis to Deliver High Tech Equipment for Two German Substations

Germany’s ambitious transformation of the energy supply system: the “Energiewende” offers a wide range of challenges and opportunities for innovative businesses in the development of new technology. And therefore for Pontis.

Recently, Pontis was commissioned to develop and deliver high tech equipment for the installation of 2 offshore converter stations (BorWin2 & HelWin1). These +30.000 Ton platforms will be installed later this year, about 150 km of the north coast of Germany. The converter stations are designed to transmit electricity generated in remote offshore wind farms to the mainland with a minimum of losses. They have to operate reliably for several decades under harsh environmental conditions.

Since 2010 Pontis has been developing expertise in logistics and transport, driven by the challenges facing the wind energy industry in transporting extremely big, heavy, sensitive and expensive wind turbine parts. They have since then developed smart transport fixtures for rotor blades from 26 to 55 meters in length for various clients worldwide and acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience. This expertise now proves to be very valuable for logistics operations in other branches such as the offshore industry.
