The Netherlands: Airborne Manufactures First Commercial RTM Performance Blades for Tocardo

Airborne Marine has manufactured the first commercial Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) performance blades for Tocardo, a leading producer of tidal and free-flow water turbines. The blades will be shipped to the Tocardo assembly site in Den Oever, The Netherlands.

The RTM performance blades will be mounted on Tocardo’s commercially available turbines which will be shipped abroad shortly. Tocardo is the first company to market these commercially.  Airborne Marine supplies reliable performance blades for global tidal projects.

Airborne Marine is pursuing the development of a 1-shot Resin Transfer Moulding process for tidal blades with the aim to establish maximum de-risked and high reliability performance blades, up to a length of some 10 meters. By eliminating any adhesive bonding in the blade structure, a risk area in current designs, Airborne Marine believes this to be highly beneficial with respect to long term reliable performance, facilitating both the reduction of maintenance costs and securing a lifetime of at least 15 years. These are important factors for clean green energy and the reduction of the tidal Cost of Energy.
