UK: E.ON Resubmits Planning Application for Rampion Offshore Wind Farm

The UK Planning Inspectorate received an application from E.ON Climate and Renewables for the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm project on March 1st.

A couple of months ago, E.ON decided to temporarily withdraw its application for the Development Consent Order in order to tackle some remaining issues voiced during the previously held consultation process. The application, submitted by the company on December 14th 2012, had also been subjected to revision prior to its filing.

The Planning Inspectorate now has to review the application and decide whether or not to accept it by Friday, March 29th 2013.

Namely, within a period of up to 28 days the Planning Inspectorate, on behalf of the Secretary of State, has to decide whether or not the application meets the standards required to be formally accepted for examination.

Rampion Offshore  Wind Farm could feature between 100 and 175 turbines depending on the wind turbine model selected. The site could still accommodate an installed electrical capacity of up to 700MW, which E.ON estimates could generate enough electricity to supply the equivalent of around 450,000 homes. The project’s offshore and onshore electrical infrastructure includes a cable route from the coast to a new substation near the existing Bolney Substation in Mid Sussex.
