UK Jee Completes Cable Installation at Gunfleet Sands 3

Jee Ltd, a leading subsea engineering and training firm, has just completed a contract with Technip Offshore Wind Ltd for the provision of subsea power cable installation engineering on a new and innovative offshore wind farm project.

Jee provided Technip with valuable information about the safest and most efficient way to install the cables, thereby minimising installation costs and reducing the risk of cable damage during offshore operations.

The project, Gunfleet Sands 3, is located eight miles off the coast of Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, and is the latest offshore wind farm development from Danish firm, DONG Energy.

A number of industry firsts were realised in this development, including the use of Siemens new 6 megawatt turbine, the first of its kind to be used offshore. Pioneering technologies were showcased and tested, such as a novel cable protection system and a new foundation design, all being used to optimise the build and operation of offshore wind farms to ultimately reduce the cost of energy produced.

Gary Howland, Business Development Manager at Jee Ltd said: “We are very pleased with this successful contract completion, which demonstrates Jee’s dedication to offshore wind projects and high-quality subsea engineering. It was an honour to be a part of this groundbreaking project and we look forward to seeing how the new technologies perform.

“Our engineers in London, Aberdeen and Tonbridge have a proven track record of providing subsea cable engineering services for offshore wind farms, and we are proud of our reputation as a trusted industry expert.”

Technip has recently commissioned Jee to undertake a similar scope of work for the Borkum West 2 project in Germany. Work will take place through the remainder of Q1 and Q2 in 2013.
