Japan: ANRE Announces Present Status of Facilities Generating Renewable Energy

Japanese Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), an agency of the country’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), which is responsible for Japan’s energy and natural resources policies, has announced the present status of facilities generating renewable energy as of February 30, 2013.

The Agency reported that the total combined capacity of such facilities between April 1, 2012, and February 30, 2013, reached 1,662,000 kW, among which photovoltaic power facilities accounted for 1,559,000 kW.

From April to June 2012, wind power accounted for 0 kW, while the latest results show that it amounted to 63,000 kW at the beginning of this year.

Small and medium hydropower reached 3,000 kW, geothermal 1,000 kW and biomass power accounted for 36,000 kW, according to the Agency’s results.
