In response to the latest announcement from The Crown Estate on leasing rounds;

Lindsay Leask, Senior Policy Manager for Scottish Renewables , said: “Scotland has already quickly established itself as the key destination for testing and delivery of wave and tidal devices with the world leading European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney.

“We therefore welcome The Crown Estate’s announcement that further wave and tidal sites will be leased in an effort to encourage and accelerate technology development. Having new demonstration zones in Scottish waters can create significant opportunities for companies such as Nautricity and AlbaTERN who are looking to take their devices to the next stage of commercial development.

“According to latest reports for the UK and Scottish Governments, given the right support, the Scottish marine industry could generate enough electricity to power around two million homes by 2030. We have a fantastic resource around our coastline and we should be making the most of it to tackle climate change, create jobs and drive investment into the economy.”
