Germany: Wind Farm and Transmission System Operators Join ForcesOffshore wind farm operators and transmission system operators for the North and Baltic Seas want to work together to pave the way for a steady development of offshore wind energy.

On the initiative from TenneT, AG Betrieber, TenneT and 50 Hertz have decided to cooperate closely in order to continue efficiently the development of offshore wind energy and to exploit effectively the connection capacity.

“The close cooperation with the wind farm operators is very important to us. Only together we can find ways to bring the development of offshore wind energy to progress smoothly. I am sure that we will serve as an example to show political leaders realistic proposals and thus help to ensure that the offshore wind energy can make an important contribution to the energy supply of the future,” said Lex Hartman, a member of the Management Board from TenneT.

Jörg Budde Berg, spokesman for the AG Betreiber, added: “The common solidarity for us as investors in political, technical and economic terms is of paramount importance to ensure a systematic and therefore cost-effective development of offshore wind energy and power connections.”

“A stabilization of the development is worthwhile on the economic level and provides the investors with the necessary planning security,” adds Boris Schucht, CEO of 50 Hertz.

In the coming weeks, appropriate measures will be identified and possible solutions will be developed for different focal points within three different project groups.

By fall, the partners will submit proposals for stabilization of offshore expansion, for efficient utilization of already emerging grid connection capacity and for cost reduction in development and integration of offshore wind energy.
