The Netherlands: Groningen Seaports to Further Develop Beatrixhaven for Offshore Wind

Groningen Seaports plans to construct the west side quay of the Beatrixhaven, which will be used for purposes of the offshore wind industry.

The offshore terminal, which is also referred to as Beatrixhaven Quay, Stage 5, will be used for storage of construction elements of wind turbines and a loading dock for goods. The quay is located relatively high above the ground and requires mobile crane loading.

In addition, the possibility for the construction of various workboats will be facilitated.

In the western part of Eemshaven an area of over 80 hectares is available for offshore wind facilities.  Groningen Seaports is investing about EUR 25 million in 700 metres of new heavy-duty quay facilities and an extension of Beatrixhaven by 500 metres. This is an important investment to meet the requirements of an offshore wind facility. The work is scheduled for completion in 2013.
