France EDF Seeking Contractor for Trenching Trials

EDF is inviting tenders for the cable trenching trials, as part of the development and the construction of offshore wind farms projects in France, in order to assess the performance of burial methods commonly used in the industry in the offshore wind farms sites of Fecamp, Courseulles sur Mer and Saint-Nazaire.

There are 3 kind of tools to be tested: Jet trenching; Plough; Mechanical cutting.

Estimated quantities are:

  • Jet trenching: 10-15 trials/lines of 50-500m per site;
  • Plough: 1-10 trials/lines of 150-500m per site;
  • Mechanical cutting: 1-10 trials/lines of 100-500m per site.

Last year in April, EDF and Alstom won three of five batches of the 10 billion-euro ($13.3 billion) worth contract for the development of the offshore wind farms.
