UK SMart Wind Submits Application for 1.2GW OWF

SMart Wind (a joint venture between Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Project Ventures) and DONG Energy have submitted the Project One offshore wind farm on behalf of Heron Wind Ltd and Njord Ltd to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) for consent determination, on 30th July.

PINS will have until 27th August to decide whether to accept the application. Project One, the first offshore wind farm SMart Wind is developing in the Round 3 Hornsea Zone, covers a 407km area located 103km off the Yorkshire coast. When complete, it will deliver up to 1.2GW of capacity and bring low carbon power to the UK and much needed economic growth to the Humber region.

We expect a recommendation by PINS, and decision by the Secretary of State for Energy, by the end of 2014. This will allow to move into the construction phase shortly after and fully commission in time to contribute to meeting the UK’s 2020 renewable energy targets.
