USA More than 4,500 Signatures for LEEDCo's Icebreaker

After the ‘POWER UP for Offshore Wind’ event, Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation’s (LEEDCo) POWER Pledge program has emerged with more than 4,500 signatures, writes WOIO.

Via the POWER Pledge, people can sign up and take the pledge to purchase a portion of their electricity from America’s first freshwater offshore wind project, located on Lake Erie.

LEEDCo President Dr. Lorry Wagner said: “We are very pleased to have so much support from the region’s elected officials, other business and community leaders, and our general public stakeholders. Community engagement and support are critical to our success, and the support we have received for the POWER Pledge is very encouraging for the future of offshore wind in the Great Lakes.”

The Icebraker demonstration project consists of installing 6 American-made 3 MW wind turbine in Lake Erie 7 miles off the coast of Cleveland.

At the event Mayor Fran G. Jackson said: “In August of 2011, I asked the community to rally behind LEEDCo’s vision, and that’s what we’re seeing here today.”
