Oceanlinx has submitted an application to the Essential Services Commission (ESC) for permission to develop a wave energy generator off the coast of south-east of South Australia.

New South Wales-based company is planning to deploy a wave energy device offshore Port MacDonnell which will be connected to the grid via a subsea cable.

Oceanlinx’s technique utilizes the phenomenon of resonance to amplify the wave height and direct it into a chamber. The up and down motion of the water causes a rush of air forward and backwards through the chamber. A turbine situated at the far end of the chamber is driven by this airflow and generates electricity.

Earlier this month, Oceanlinx has announced that trenching work for the cables in question has begun.

The application will now be assessed, while the public comments would be accepted by October 7.
