‘WINDEA one’ Catamaran Christened in Emden, Germany

On 18 September 2013, a new catamaran of Windea Offshore GmbH & Co. KG – a joint venture of EMS Maritime Offshore GmbH (EMO), the Bernhard Schulte Group and SSC Wind GmbH – was baptized in Emden by the name ‘WINDEA one’.

After a welcome speech by Dr. Bernhard Brons (EMS’ Executive), Knut Gerdes (EMO Managing Director) and Hinrich Eden (Managing Director at SSC Wind GmbH) the catamaran was officially launched by the godmother Anne Higgen Eden, Managing Director of SSC Wind GmbH.

The invited guests from politics and industry gathered at the “Landemole Knock” to mark the occasion.

‘WINDEA one’ is meant to be used for the transport of personnel and materials to offshore wind farms. EMS AG had made its first steps in the offshore business in 2007 with a converted lifeboat. Since then, however, the requirements of operators and customers have significantly changed. For example, ships are now required to have a minimum speed of 25 knots, and the transport of offshore personnel should be smooth and comfortable.

With the construction of ‘WINDEA one’ by a shipyard of the Singapore-based DAMEN Group, Windea Offshore GmbH & Co. KG has met these new requirements.
