Samsung's Transition Piece Installed (UK)

Following successful installation of the large diameter piles, another significant milestone has taken place at the Samsung Offshore Wind Turbine project.

Over the last week the steel jacket was lowered into place and the Transition Piece (TP) installed. Both the jacket and TP were fabricated in Glasgow and loaded unto separate barges prior to sea transportation around the tip of Scotland, a journey which took 3 days alongside the quay.

The key pieces were then transported from the quay to a lay down area prior to being lifted into their final position using the powerful cc12600 crawler crane which has a 1600ton capacity.

The next stage will see the TP connected to the jacket during a constant 4 day welding process consisting of 16 welders working 24 hours a day.

The team has commenced preparing the towers, nacelle and blades for the wind turbine generator installation which will take place over the coming weeks.
