Floating Offshore Wind Farm Planned for Santa Barbara, USA

John Reed, an entrepreneur who established ChannelWind, wants to build an offshore wind farm in the Santa Barbara Channel.

Mr. Reed says that constant winds from Point Conception through the Channel make these places viable for developing floating offshore wind projects, KCOY news site writes. Mr. Reed created ChannelWind as a wind energy startup company that aims to successfully add offshore wind energy to California’s central coast grid, and its base is in Santa Barbara.

At the moment, the University of California, Santa Barbara is probing the feasibility of offshore wind in the Channel.

“Floating wind turbines are fully developed and tested and so I think it’s time for us to try and get in the game,” the news site cites Mr. Reed as saying.
