Germany: Rescue Helicopter Commissioned for Baltic 2 Offshore Wind Project

Germany Rescue Helicopter Commissioned for Baltic 2 Offshore Wind Project

A new rescue helicopter was commissioned into service for the Baltic 2 offshore wind project yesterday (October 7) at the airport in Güttin (Vorpommern-Rügen district).

The Eurocopter BK 117 helicopter is specially equipped for rescue operations at sea. The network operator 50 Hertz and the wind turbine manufacturer EnBW are covering the hiring costs for  the helicopter and personnel that will operate at their Baltic 2 offshore wind project.

Currently, the construction of the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm is underway approximately 32 kilometers north of Rügen. 50 Hertz has begun work on the network connection. At such distances, the rescue chain cannot be carried out solely at sea, so the helicopter has been deployed to Güttin.

The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development, Ina-Maria Ulbrich participated in the commissioning event.
