UK Energy Minster Set for EEEGR's Norwich Conference

The Government Minister in the middle of the current debate between energy suppliers and consumers has agreed to be a keynote speaker at a major Norwich conference next year.

Energy Minister Michael Fallon will take part in the SNS2014 Sea of Opportunity Conference being staged by EEEGR (the East of England Energy Group) at the Norfolk Showground on March 5-6.

Focused on the offshore gas and windpower sectors, with emphasis on the Southern North Sea (SNS), it is already the biggest energy event in the region but the Minister’s involvement will further enhance its position as a leading national and international showcase for the industry.

Mr Fallon has been at the heart of Government reaction to the latest rises in electricity and gas prices. But he also has a vital role in encouraging industry investment in the future to ensure that UK supplies are sustained.

Fixed ‘strike’ prices for the supply of power generated from offshore windpower and new nuclear also come within his portfolio – and he has spoken up for UK shale gas exploration tests.

“SNS2014 will reflect on the latest Government initiatives to support our vital industry and we’re delighted that the Energy Minister has agreed to attend and speak,” said EEEGR CEO Simon Gray.

“The Southern North Sea has never been more important, both to our region and the UK economy and energy supply, with the renewed gas rush and offshore windpower boom. But it’s an ever-changing scene and our event will also feature key international speakers, many representing global companies

“We’re offering a rare chance to the East of England energy supply chain to learn, listen, meet, network, showcase and do business throughout two stimulating and inspiring days.”

International expert John Westwood, chairman of energy market research specialists Douglas-Westwood, will lead and facilitate on both days of the conference, which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

The opening day will feature a Platform for Innovation and Technology event when companies of all sizes can feature some of the new and groundbreaking ideas which are boosting the industry.

That will be followed by a gala dinner in the evening and the conference will resume the next day with its keynote speakers.
