Siemens, UNITe Sign French Tidal Energy Cooperation Deal

On Tuesday, Siemens signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French renewable energy producer UNITe to join forces in responding to the Call for Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the installation of demonstration tidal energy projects off Cotentin and Finistère.

Under the MoU, the two companies will participate actively in the development of marine energy sector in France, following the announcement of the EoI by the French President François Hollande on September 30 in Cherbourg. Under the EoI, seven zones have been provided for the installation of demonstration farms on sites in Raz-Blanchard off the Cotentin coast and Fromveur off the coast of Finistere.

The first step of this partnership is to evaluate the conditions in the EoI specification for demonstration tidal turbine farms of the ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency).
