Global Tech I Appoints New Business Managing Director

The project company Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH has appointed Hendrik Steindam as its new Business Managing Director. Effective 1 November 2013, Mr. Steindam assumes responsibility for business and legal aspects of the North Sea offshore wind farm.

Gained from management positions that include auditors Ernst & Young and shipping certifiers and technical supervisors Germanischer Lloyd (GL), the graduate in business administration brings the extensive experience in leading and strategically orienting companies that is needed to guide the Global Tech I project to its operational phase. As before, Arjen Schampers remains responsible as Technical Managing Director for construction of the wind farm and since August this year Dr. Claus Burkhardt is the Technical Managing Director responsible for operations.

Hendrik Steindam follows on from Dr. Thomas Meerpohl, who was delegated by associated company Stadtwerke München (SWM) to manage Global Tech I and in April this year was recalled to take up a position of head of strategy and group management at SWM. As interim managers, first Thomas Maetzel and subsequently Michael Böddeker were obtained, each for limited durations. They have now relinquished their positions as Business Managing Director as planned.

The Global Tech I offshore wind farm in the North Sea is presently under construction and plans to be fully operational in summer 2014. In early May, the substation platform was installed at the middle of the wind farm. The commissioning of the Global Tech I substation platform shall be finalised, in conjunction with the interim grid connection via BorWin alpha in the next few weeks. 70 of the 80 tripod foundations are already installed and fitting of the turbines has already begun. As soon as Global Tech I is connected to the grid via the converter station BorWin beta, it will be able to supply the average consumption of 445,000 households with environmentally friendly power.
