International Connection in Baltic Sea

Scandinavia and Central Europe are about to connect their offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, writes the German Welt.

Kriegers Flak is the three-border region in the Baltic Sea between Denmark, Germany and Sweden, where German transmission system operator, 50 Hertz Transmission and Danish grid operator Energinet.dk want to construct a power line that will connect two national offshore wind farms.

Sebastian Wagner, 50 Hertz project manager, said: “The integration of offshore wind farms of the two states in a so-called interconnector solution is a pilot project for Europe.”

This project is funded by the EU with up to EUR 150 million and it could serve as a model for future offshore grids in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and the Mediterranean, Wagner added.
