Vestas Makes Major Progress in Wind Industry

Vestas has received a record number of wind turbine orders per month in December, which amount to 1,346 MW.

The record was triggered by wind energy developers in the United States, who were under pressure to meet the deadline to qualify for a tax credit, Reuters informs. A year ago, the U.S. Congress extended the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for a year, to help fund wind energy development.

Furthermore, Vestas is taking major steps within the offshore wind industry with the construction of its 8MW turbine, which is scheduled to be installed in the next few months.

“We consider V164-8.0 MW as a game changer and it will make Vestas a world leader within offshore,” Reuters quotes Vestas’ marketing officer Morten Albaek as saying.

According to Handelsbanken Capital Markets, the first order for the Vestas’ 8MW turbine can be expected in a year or so.
