Germany: A2SEA to Install 97 Turbines on Gode Wind

Germany A2SEA to Install 97 Turbines on Gode Wind

A2SEA has signed a contract with DONG Energy to install 97 turbines on Gode Wind 1 + 2 in the German part of the North Sea.

In the first half of 2015, A2SEA will start installation of a total of 97 turbines from Siemens, each of 6MW/154m rotor, with a total capacity of 582 MW. When completed, Gode Wind 1 and 2 will be the largest contiguous offshore wind farm in Germany to date.

At A2SEA, CEO Jens Frederik Hansen is very satisfied with the contract: “It is no secret that there are only a few offshore wind projects until we expect a slight increase in projects from 2017. And naturally we are interested in keeping our vessels deployed continuously to keep costs down and be able to contribute to the industry’s goals to reduce the cost of energy. Furthermore, we see the agreement as an acknowledgment of our previous work and I believe we have shown our worth with e.g. the installation of 235 turbines in 2013. Last but not least it is a very positive signal from the German market that offshore wind is back on the agenda and prioritised.”

Also DONG Energy is satisfied with the upcoming project in Germany. Trine Borum Bojsen, Managing Director in Germany says: “We are looking forward to realising our biggest offshore wind farm project in Germany, Gode Wind 1 and 2. It is our biggest investment ever and will cement our leadership position in offshore wind. Until 2020 we are aiming to install 6.5 GW offshore capacity in Europe. On completion of Gode Wind 1 and 2 we will be one step ahead, DONG Energy will have built a total of approximately 3.5 GW of offshore wind.”

A2SEA will deploy their second generation offshore installation vessel SEA INSTALLER on Gode Wind 1 (330MW) and Gode Wind 2 (252MW). SEA INSTALLER has previously installed turbines on the Gunfleet Sands Extension and West of Duddon Sands.
