All Blades Installed on Vestas’ 8MW Turbine Prototype

All three wind turbine blades have been installed on the V164-8.0 MW prototype at the Danish national test centre in Østerild, Vestas announced.

The company said that good weather conditions on the night of January 13 allowed the installation of all three 80m long blades of the offshore wind turbine. The turbine will be commissioned after preparatory work is done in the following weeks.

These blades are the longest ever manufactured by Vestas. Each blade weighs approximately 35 tons and the diameter of the root is 4.6m. The rotor diameter of 164m is larger than the London Eye (135m).
