Wadden Sea Islands Oppose Wind Farm Off Ameland

The Dutch Wadden Sea Islands have expressed their disapproval in relation to the proposed Ameland Potentiele Zoekgebieden offshore wind farm.

In order to meet the nation’s green targets, the Dutch Government wants to build several offshore wind farms, including the one located six kilometers off the islands’ northerly coasts.

The five islands share the opinion that this wind farm is absolutely not justified in relation to the social importance of the Wadden Sea as one of the top tourist destinations in the Netherlands.

They also think that the wind farm would jeopardize maritime security, bird migration, as well as the region’s status of a Unesco world heritage site.
