Wind Farm Update

Gwynt y Môr Offshore Cleared of UXOs

All three World War Two bombs found on the seabed within Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in Liverpool Bay have undergone successful controlled explosions.

The 50kg devices, containing 25kg of high explosives, were safely destroyed during three operations carried out between Monday 24th and Wednesday 27th March by Ramora UK, a specialist bomb disposal company.

Exclusion zones relating to the discovery of the UXOs have been lifted and all construction activities have resumed across the wind farm.

The three bombs were discovered at the end of January more than eight miles off the North Wales coast following a series of severe storms which disturbed the seabed.

A Marine Licence and a European Protected Species Licence were issued by Natural Resources Wales for the removal works.
