DBR Generatorsets has successfully completed commissioning and start-up of its custom-built auxiliary power package for E.ON’s Amrumbank West wind farm substation.

DBR delivered and installed two 1,250kVA diesel generator sets and one 250kVA set. Cofely Fabricom is assembling the topsides at its Hoboken, Belgium yard before installation in the German Bight.

“This was a challenging project as the dimensions are very tight,” said DBR Sales Manager Henri Hafkamp. “We’re pleased that this custom engineered and built generator set package has performed perfectly and to the full satisfaction of our client. This proves the value of our dedicated expertise in offshore wind.”

The Amrumbank West package includes closed cooling systems and radiators, as well as the complete ventilation and exhaust system. Engineered to withstand the harsh offshore environment, the package’s corrosion protection includes salt filters, a C5M coating system with a skid framework fully in accordance with DNV GL offshore standards. Typical for a wind farm substation, the power package engineering features automatic start-up and voltage ramp-up, synchronizing with closed circuit breakers against transformer (or live bus synchronizing).

DBR’s expertise and capability in offshore wind has firmly established the Dutch company in Europe’s offshore wind market, with recent references such as DolWin alpha HVDC transformer platform and the Butendiek substation. In addition, DBR is a preferred supplier for North Sea oil and gas operators.
