Operations & Maintenance

An infield survey is underway at Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms,  approximately 15 km off Walney Island in the UK’s part of the Irish Sea.

Vessels Get Busy at Walney Offshore Wind Sites

A 14-meter long survey vessel Argus-G has been fitted with sounding equipment for the task. The vessel started carrying out the survey, as well as the inspection work on wind turbines and foundations, at the end of April. The survey is scheduled to last for eight weeks.

Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms both comprise 51 turbines with a total capacity of 367.2 MW.

At the Walney Extension site, a DP vessel ‘Highland Eagle’ is deployed for a geotechnical ground investigation, replacing Gargano vessel, which was initially mobilized for the job.

The proposed Walney Extension offshore wind farm is located around 19 km west-southwest from the Isle of Walney in Cumbria, and would have a potential installed capacity of up to 750 MW.
