Statoil has awarded Aibel the contract for FEED and EMA (Engineering & Management Assistance) of substructures for the Hywind Scotland Pilot Park offshore wind farm. The contract has an estimated value of approximately EUR 4.7 million.

Statoil Signs Hywind Deal with Aibel“This is an important new step in our commitment to renewable energy. This past year we’ve worked hard to get this contract. Here our experience from the Dolwin Beta wind platform has been a crucial factor,” said Jan Skogseth, CEO of Aibel.

The project comprises a FEED study and a subsequent detailed EMA phase for the development of substructures for the five new floating wind turbines. The turbines will be installed in the field off the east coast of Scotland. Project completion is expected in 2017, when the turbines have been installed.

Work will start immediately and will be performed from Aibel’s offices in Oslo and Haugesund. At most 30 employees will be involved in the project. Aibel will cooperate closely with the following subcontractors: Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), Dr.techn.Olav Olsen AS and Principa North AS.

“The Statoil award is a recognition of Aibel’s project organisation, together with some of Europe’s leading experts on structural analysis of offshore wind turbines. Now, together with the rest of our organisation, they will ensure high-quality implementation,” said Jan Skogseth.

Statoil has previously carried out a demonstration project of the Hywind concept on a smaller scale off Karmøy.
