Global wind and solar company Mainstream Renewable Power hosted eleven students from the Norstec Academy at its London office as part of their one week tour of the offshore wind industry.

Mainstream Hosts Norstec Academy Students

The Norstec Academy skills programme was launched in May this year through a student competition and the winners spent one week visiting sites and meeting experts across the UK offshore wind industry. The Academy’s goal is to inform and inspire the next generation of potential employees about offshore renewables. Students from universities around the UK and one from the Netherlands took part in the programme.

Mainstream’s Head of Technology, Joe Corbett took the students through a presentation titled ‘Joining the Dots: Can Europe Share its Offshore-generated Electricity?’ The Supergrid and the wider 2030 context.

Mainstream’s Norstec Ambassador, Claire Nelson said: “As the leading independent offshore developer with almost 8,000 megawatts of projects we felt it was important to educate the students on the value of integrating large scale wind energy in the North Sea via the Supergrid. The Carousel is an excellent platform to give students a holistic view of the offshore industry in a very practical and informative way.”
